Fraser River Fishing Update: What’s Been Biting Lately?

Jumping White Sturgeon
Fraser River, BC

Hey everyone, it’s Brandon from Mainlanders Sport Fishing, and I’m back with an update on what’s going down (or swimming by!) on the Fraser River. This year has been a wild one—both for us and the fish—so let’s dive into what’s been happening out on the water!

Salmon Update: Chum Season is Here!

The big news right now is that Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has opened chum salmon fishing from October 26 to November 30, with a daily limit of two per angler. This season is always an exciting time to be on the water, and chums offer some solid action if you’re up for the challenge. Make sure to check current regulations and conditions before heading out!

Sturgeon Fishing: Still the MVP

Okay, now let’s talk sturgeon—because honestly, these river monsters never fail to impress. If you haven’t tried sturgeon fishing yet, you’re missing out! We’ve been pulling in some absolute units lately, with a few hitting an incredible 9–10 feet. These giants of the river are like the dinosaurs of the water, and they’re thriving out here.

Remember, sturgeon fishing is catch-and-release only, and we take good care of these beauties. They’re part of what makes Fraser River fishing so epic, so let’s keep them around for the long haul!

Mother Nature’s Curveballs: Wildfires and Water Levels

It’s been a weird year for weather, too. We’ve had wildfires in the area, which affected air quality and sometimes water conditions. Plus, the water levels on the Fraser have been all over the place with droughts and sudden rainstorms. It’s been a bit of a guessing game, but hey, that’s why we love fishing—adapting to nature’s surprises is part of the fun.

On the plus side, these challenges have pushed us to explore new spots along the river. Some of those unexpected places have turned out to be real hidden gems for fishing!

Sustainable Fishing: Doing Our Part

At Mainlanders, we’re all about keeping it sustainable. We love fishing, but we also want to make sure future generations can enjoy it too. So whether it’s respecting catch limits or using eco-friendly practices, we do our part to keep the Fraser River healthy and full of fish.

And honestly, the better we treat the river, the better the fishing gets!

What’s Next: Fall Fishing Fun

As we roll into fall, there’s more action on the horizon! Coho salmon are starting to show up, and they’re a blast to catch. We’re also staying on top of any rule changes from Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) to keep things legit. Be sure to follow us on social media for real-time updates on what’s happening on the river.

So if you’re ready for some epic fishing—whether you’re chasing sturgeon, chum salmon, or just soaking in the beauty of the Fraser—Mainlanders Sport Fishing has you covered. Let’s get out there and make some memories!

Tight lines,

Brandon
