Overall, 2021 was a fantastic sturgeon fishing season for us! It was great to meet and fish with new guests from across Canada. A big thank you to all our returning guests, we appreciate your business year after year!
Sturgeon Conservation
Over the winter months we will be out targeting Juvenile Sturgeon for research purposes, tagging and assessment on girth, length, food sources and what area of the river they are holding in. So far in our five year project (Year 2) over 3000 juvenile Sturgeon have been tagged. This is an excellent sign that the big, mature sturgeon are breeding well.
Sturgeon Fishing Review
Sturgeon fishing overall was excellent this year, the food source was plentiful and we spent time fishing all over the river from Hope to Mission.
We landed 5 fish over 9 feet (!) and tagged many fish of all sizes.
We are open for business year round. In December, January and February the weather can be spotty but on those cool, calm days the fishing is excellent. At the beginning of March, when the weather starts to turn we will be on the water daily and 2022 is shaping up to be a very busy season. Lots of our return gusts have pre booked their preferred dates. We frequently get asked “when is the best time to come sturgeon fishing in BC?” In truth there really is no best time – sturgeon are active all year round and we consistently catch big fish in all conditions. I suggest what ever works for your holiday plans.
Salmon Fishing
If Salmon fishing is also of interest to you, I suggest booking September 25th and onward, through until November 15th. We typically fish Coho, Chum, and Chinook salmon on the Chilliwack/ Vedder river, and also on the Harrison river. We always suggest if you want to fish Salmon and Sturgeon booking two days.
